The photo-etched set 1:700 for the destroyer Akizuki replaces plastic railings, ladders and other thin parts with metal ones.
Responsibility details are not available.
In 1:700 scale injection-molded plastic runs into its limit: railings, ladders and radar antennas cannot be molded as thin as reality would call for. Photo-etched metal removes that obstacle, because its thickness is measured in tenths of a millimeter. According to the name, the set is prepared for the model of this destroyer.
The ship gave its name to a whole class created as an answer to the growing strength of carrier aviation. Unlike the older Japanese destroyers built mainly around torpedo armament, the new class put the emphasis on antiaircraft gunnery and on escorting large units. Akizuki entered service in 1942 and her fate was sealed in the fall of 1944 during the fighting in Philippine waters.
Break the parts out on a hard surface with a sharp knife, not by twisting. Use a photo-etch bending tool for the folds, or at least two blades. The metal holds most securely with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin, but give yourself time to position it. Degrease the surface before painting and use a primer made for metal, otherwise the paint will flake off in time.
The contents are the metal parts themselves; you obtain the ship model separately.
