This item is not a model of the ship but an accessory to a plastic kit in 1:700 scale. It holds a veneer deck with a self-adhesive base and with the pattern of the deck planks printed on it. It is glued straight onto the plastic deck and replaces it, without filling, scribing and without painting plank by plank. The set is designed for the Tamiya 31805 kit.
The Prinz Eugen was a German heavy cruiser of the Admiral Hipper class, taken into service in 1940. The main armament consisted of eight 203 mm guns in four twin turrets. A characteristic feature of the ship was the long, relatively slender bow and the expansive open deck areas, on which wooden planking tells strongly to the eye.
On a cruiser with a long bow, holding the axis is the key. Start with the largest part and line it up by the longitudinal axis of the ship, not by one edge: if you deviate by a tenth of a millimeter halfway along the hull, the planks at the stern will be visibly skewed against the axis and the eye will find it on a finished model at once. Mark the axis on the plastic with a pencil in advance or mark a bow and a stern point. Glue the smaller additional parts only after the main areas have been seated, so that the continuation of the pattern of planks can be aligned.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model of the ship. The kit itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
