About product

Tamiya 1:700 Japanese submarine I-58 late version (Waterline Series)

A plastic kit of the Japanese submarine I-58 in her late version in 1:700 scale from the manufacturer Tamiya, placed in the Waterline Series range. The model represents the submarine down to the waterline, that is, the part above water, which is typical of this collector range intended for building a fleet on a common water base. It is supplied as an unassembled and unpainted injection-molded kit.

The real subject

I-58 was a large Japanese ocean-going submarine fielded at the close of the Second World War in the Pacific. As a late unit of her type she carried the modifications that came out of wartime experience. The submarines of this class had a long range and were intended for operations over great distances.

Building and painting tips

Glue the parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and sand the small joints once they have dried. Thanks to the small scale the model suits an airbrush; pick out the deck and the hull with a fine wash and a dry brush. A waterline model can be set on a water base and completed with the effect of the surface of the sea.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of naval hardware in 1:700 scale
  • Those interested in Japanese submarines of the Second World War
  • Builders of waterline dioramas and fleets

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
