A set of axes from the TRAITORS SQUAD range by Green Stuff World in 1:48 scale. These are accessory parts for figures, not a figure or a model in their own right.
An axe differs from slender parts in that it concentrates volume at a single point on the edge of the silhouette. The eye reads such a shape as weight, so the figure looks sturdier even though nothing else about it has changed. At the same time it makes demands on the balance of the whole composition: a massive part on one side is usually offset by turning the torso or by spreading the legs, otherwise the figure seems to topple over. Think that relationship through in advance and a single part will give you far more than a change of weapon. In a group the heavy shape can also be used sparingly: give it to one or two figures and they immediately become the focus that the rest of the group relates to.
For modelers who see a figure as a whole composition and want to work with its proportions. The designation TRAITORS SQUAD is the name of the range in the manufacturer's original wording. The material, the number of pieces and the dimensions of the parts are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
