A plastic kit of the modern Japanese destroyer Murasame in 1:700 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Aoshima. The model represents the present-day Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and is a welcome change for anyone who wants to extend a collection of ships beyond the horizon of the Second World War.
The Murasame is the first unit of the class of the same name of multipurpose destroyers, which were entering service from the second half of the 1990s. The ships combine anti-aircraft, anti-ship and anti-submarine armament with vertical launch cells and carry a shipboard helicopter, for which they have a hangar and a landing deck at the stern. The name Murasame, which translates as a passing shower, follows on from the tradition of older Japanese destroyers of the same name.
Modern warships are marked by clean surfaces and a uniform gray, which makes a precise surface finish all the more important. Spray the base shade on evenly with an airbrush, set the deck apart with a darker tone and bring details such as the radars or the silhouette of the hangar out with a fine wash. Choose very discreet weathering, because modern Japanese ships tend to be well kept. The model looks striking on a calm sea surface with an accompanying helicopter in the air.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
