A resin set of shipboard anti-aircraft armament for models in 1:700 scale. Light cannons are exactly the part of a plastic hull that injection molding handles worst: the parts tend to be thick, with blunted barrels and without a shield. Castings in this scale keep the fineness of the scale, that is thin barrels, openings in the mount and legible gunner's rests. The set is fitted onto the deck of a finished or part-built model and does not include the ship itself.
The Oerlikon automatic cannon of 20 mm caliber was the standard light anti-aircraft weapon of Allied ships in the Second World War. The originally Swiss design was produced under license in large numbers and was mounted on practically everything from destroyers to auxiliary vessels. The twin mount came later, when it turned out that a single-barrel weapon no longer had enough firepower against faster and better protected targets. The fixed mount was traversed by the strength of the crew leaning into shoulder rests. The cannons stood in gun positions around the superstructures, on the sides of the deck and on the bridge wings.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release agent disappears from them. The castings in this scale are tiny, so cut them off the casting blocks with a sharp fresh knife or a fine saw over a surface and work with tweezers; sand the traces of the cut only lightly, do not inhale the dust and sand wet. The simplest procedure is to leave the set on its casting carrier, spray the primer and the base shade before separating the parts and touch them up only after they are fitted. On the deck, cyanoacrylate glue in a small drop applied with a pin holds best, or liquid cement with a longer setting time, so that the weapon can still be traversed. The gun positions and the deck are painted before the weapons; the barrels can be picked out with a dark metallic shade and the crew suggested by a small figure.
This is an add-on set, not a model of a ship. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
