A plastic kit of the German ocean-going Type IXC submarine in 1:700 scale from Hobby Boss. A small model for a collection of Second World War submarines.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit captures the German ocean-going Type IXC submarine in 1:700 scale. It is a small model that suits a collection next to surface ships in the same scale, or as an addition to a harbor scene. Hobby Boss offers a complete range of submarines in this size, so a comparative set of the individual types side by side can be built up over time.
While the Type VII boats were built for operations in the Atlantic near European bases, the Type IX came about as a vessel with a markedly greater range for use in distant theaters. Type IXC boats therefore operated off the coast of America, in the Caribbean and off West Africa. Compared with the Type VII they were larger and had a roomier hull with a greater fuel capacity. They were diesel-electric vessels that submerged only for a limited time.
In 1:700 scale the model is small, so the result is decided by clean work. Fill the lengthwise hull seam and sand it down, otherwise you will see it along the whole length once the paint is on. Apply the paints with an airbrush in very thin coats so that the engraved detail of the deck and the conning tower is not lost. Suggest the difference between the deck and the side of the hull with a subtle shade rather than a strong contrast. The model shows well on a simple base or in a water scene with the other ships in the same scale.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
