A wooden deck for a model of the American light cruiser CL-89 Miami in 1:700 scale, shaped for the Pit-Road kit with the catalog number W23.
Responsibility details are not available.
The CL-89 Miami is an American light cruiser from the period of the Second World War. Ships of this size escorted carrier groups, covered them with anti-aircraft fire and shelled the coast. Wooden planking of the main deck was usual on American warships, and on a model it is one of the few surfaces where the difference between good and average workmanship can be told even from a distance.
A deck sheet of wooden veneer shaped for a model in 1:700 scale. The cutouts for the superstructures, the turrets and the deck equipment are prepared according to the Pit-Road kit with the catalog number W23, so the sheet seats without lengthy fitting.
Fit the deck before the superstructures and the armament go onto the model. The base has to be flat, clean and degreased, because every speck under thin veneer prints through onto the surface. Lay the sheet on dry first and check that the cutouts line up. The way it is fixed is given in the manufacturer's instructions. Painting is not necessary; anyone who wants to darken the shade applies a thin glaze, so that the pattern of the wood stays visible. Paint the other deck areas in advance, so that a brush does not touch the veneer later. Fit the anchor chain, the hatches and other small items only at the end.
For builders of ship models in 1:700 scale who want to replace the painted imitation of planks on the cruiser Miami with real wood. Fitting it is short work with a great effect and calls for no intervention in the hull.
The package holds a deck sheet. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
