The set belongs to the plastic kit of the battleship USS New York BB-34; in itself it is not a model. According to the name it holds three components: a wooden veneer deck with pre-printed plank laying and a self-adhesive backing, covering masks for spraying the deck areas and photo-etched metal parts. The aim is to replace the flat engraving on the plastic with a surface and details that look more convincing in 1:700 scale.
Do not snap the photo-etched parts out of the fret. Put a hard, smooth surface under them, for example a piece of glass or a hardened plate, and separate them with a fresh blade under vertical pressure; nippers for plastic bend thin metal. Make bends in a bending tool or between two razor blades, always toward the scored line. They are glued with super glue applied in a minimum amount, ideally on the tip of a wire, so that the glue does not spread over the visible surface. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer, otherwise paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
The most sensible way is to spray the hull and deck first, then glue the veneer on and only at the end fit the metal details, which would be in the way during masking and bend easily. Lay the veneer on degreased and completely dry plastic, peel the covering film off in sections and force the air out from the middle to the edges. Trim the overhang with a sharp blade run along the edge of the plastic.
This is an accessory set for a plastic kit, not a model. The kit, paints, primer and super glue are not included in the package. The set is cut for the Trumpeter 06711 kit; check the match before buying.
