The real subject is the heavy 155 mm howitzer designated M1917A4. The basis of the design comes from a French howitzer of the First World War period, which a number of armies took over after it ended and used even during the Second. The A4 suffix in the designation refers to a later modification of the running gear, thanks to which the howitzer could be towed by a motor vehicle faster than the original version. It was a weapon of higher-echelon artillery: it was set up in a firing position in the rear and fired by indirect fire.
The set is a model kit in 1:72 scale, that is, in the same scale as the usual models of vehicles and aircraft of this size. It therefore suits a diorama with a tractor, a crew or a firing position. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; a list of the parts and the procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
An artillery model lives or dies by how precisely the carriage and the wheels seat: assemble them on a flat surface, so the model does not limp once it is finished. Cut thin parts off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. It pays to separate the shades of the barrel and the carriage by a fine difference of tone, so the model does not look like one solid lump.
The crew figures, the towing vehicle, the paints and the glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
