Metallic Details 1:72 AH-64 Apache Longbow radar is a focused detail set of resin and photo-etched parts that replaces the mast-mounted radar on the plastic model of the helicopter.
Responsibility details are not available.
A detail set aimed at a single but conspicuous feature: the cylindrical radar housing above the main rotor head by which the Longbow version is recognized at a glance. The box holds four resin castings and a photo-etched sheet measuring roughly forty by twenty-eight millimeters. It is not a helicopter kit, as the set is an accessory that replaces the simplified part from the base model in 1:72 scale.
The radar mounted above the rotor head is the main recognition feature of the Longbow version. Thanks to its position above the rotor the machine can search for and track targets from behind cover without having to rise fully above an obstacle. The assembly has a characteristic disc shape on a short pylon that is very visible on a model, and that is exactly why it is worth replacing with a crisper casting.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to rid them of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surface by wet sanding. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary plastic cement will not bond resin. Cut the photo-etched sheet on a hard surface and bend it over a sharp edge. Apply a thin primer before painting, otherwise paint holds poorly on smooth resin. The radar is usually assembled only after the rotor head is finished and painted, so that it does not get in the way while you work.
The set is an accessory for a plastic model, not a kit in its own right. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
