Antonov An-24 Coke and An-30 Clank wheels in 1:72 scale from Armory

A resin set of replacement landing gear wheels for models of the An-24 and the An-30 in 1:72 scale. This is not an aircraft kit but an accessory for a model you already own. According to the manufacturer the tires are cast as weighted, that is with the flattened contact patch of a wheel standing under the weight of the aircraft. The manufacturer describes the set as universal; even so, compare the shape of the landing gear legs with your kit. Check the contents of the set on the box.

The real subject

The An-24 was a Soviet twin-engine turboprop airliner with a high wing, designed for short routes and for operation from unpaved surfaces. It was built in large numbers, flew with civil operators and with armed forces, and some machines serve to this day. The An-30 is its derived version for aerial photogrammetric mapping, recognizable by a glazed nose with stations for the operators and by camera openings in the floor. Both machines have the same nose and main landing gear arrangement, which is why one wheel set is enough for them.

Use and building tips

• wash the parts in warm soapy water, as mold release residue hinders both gluing and painting
• cut the casting blocks off with a saw, as snapping them off damages the shape of the tire
• glue with cyanoacrylate glue, as cement for plastic does not attack resin
• sand wet and with respiratory protection
• the flattening of the tire has to point toward the ground once fitted, so glue the wheel on last

Who the set is for

For builders of transport and cargo aircraft who are bothered that a model stands on perfectly round tires. It suits a display case as well as a diorama with an airfield surface. Working with resin calls for cyanoacrylate glue and clean preparation of the parts.
