An accessory in 1:72 scale capturing the American AQM-34 Firebee unmanned vehicle. Suitable for a carrier aircraft model and as a standalone exhibit on a base alike.
Responsibility details are not available.
The AQM-34 Firebee is among the first unmanned vehicles that genuinely proved themselves in combat. It came about by reworking an aerial target, and in the 1960s it flew reconnaissance tasks over heavily defended territory where a crew would have gone only at great risk. The vehicle was released from a carrier aircraft and after the task was recovered by parachute, so that it could be used again.
The set brings an unmanned vehicle in 1:72 scale. It comes into its own in two ways: either as a load slung under a carrier aircraft, or as a small exhibit of its own on a base, which takes up only a little room in a display case and still draws attention.
The parts are not injection-molded polystyrene, so use super glue for the joints. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand off the rest with fine abrasive paper. Wash the surface in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let it dry thoroughly.
A small vehicle is easy to paint, but for that very reason every transition between shades stands out on it. Thin coats from an airbrush and restrained accenting of the edges have proved themselves. If you are hanging it under an aircraft, dry-fit it and watch the longitudinal axis, so that the vehicle does not hang twisted.
The accessory will please modelers with an interest in American hardware of the 1960s and 1970s and in unmanned vehicles, which do not often appear. The carrier aircraft model, a base, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
