This is a decal sheet, not a kit. The package holds no plastic parts and no model - the decals are intended for a B-24D Liberator model in 1:72 scale that you build separately. The subject of the sheet is the machines of the 90th Bomb Group of the US Army Air Forces. The number of schemes, the particular machine names and the list of aircraft are given in the instructions supplied with the sheet.
The B-24D was the first version of the four-engine Liberator bomber to be used in larger numbers. Its high slender wing gave it great range, which was decisive in the Pacific - the distances between bases and targets there were far greater than in Europe. The 90th Bomb Group was a heavy bomb unit of the American Fifth Air Force and operated Liberators in the Southwest Pacific. Its machines are known among modelers for their striking unit markings, which earned the group the nickname Jolly Rogers. It is exactly that combination of a large aircraft and conspicuous markings that makes the Liberators of this unit a rewarding modeling subject.
The basic rule runs: a decal belongs on a gloss base. On matte clear, air is trapped beneath it and silvering appears, which can then be removed only by taking the decal off. Proceed therefore as follows: paint, gloss clear, decals, decal softener and finally matte or semi-matte clear over the whole model. Large marking areas of the kind that appear on bombers settle better in stages - slide the decal into place, draw off the excess water and press it down with a soft brush from the middle outward. On broken-up areas a decal softener helps, pulling the decal into the engraved lines.
