An injection-molded plastic kit of the amphibian Beriev Be-12, nicknamed Chayka, in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Modelsvit. The model is made up of injection-molded plastic parts, clear glazing parts and a decal sheet. The exact make-up of the contents is described in the enclosed instructions.
The Be-12 was a Soviet twin-engine turboprop amphibian with a characteristic cranked gull wing, after which it got the nickname Chayka, meaning seagull. It served above all for patrolling over the sea and for search duties, and it could operate from the water as well as from land. It was marked out by long endurance.
The complex boat-type hull and the cranked wing call for careful fitting and cleaning up of the joints. Paint the interior and set it in place before closing the hull. The large areas are handled well with an airbrush on a primed surface, and the boundaries between the shades of the underside and the upper surfaces come out well after masking. Lay the decals on a gloss varnish and tie the surface together at the end. A sturdy stand suits the model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
