About product

Beobachtungspanzer Mk.VI 736(e) in 1:72 scale

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German artillery observation vehicle built on the chassis of a captured British light tank, in 1:72 scale from ACE. Given the small real subject, the finished model is only roughly 55 mm long.

The real subject

The British Light Tank Mk VI was a small tracked machine with a crew of three and machine gun armament, intended for reconnaissance. After the fall of France in 1940, a large number of these vehicles fell into German hands. German designation gave them the number 736 with the letter e in brackets, which marked captured British equipment. Some of the chassis took on a new task with the artillery: they served observers who directed battery fire from them. Vehicles in this configuration stayed mostly with units stationed in France.

  • 1:72 scale, injection-molded polystyrene
  • The real subject is a German observation vehicle on the chassis of the British Light Tank Mk VI
  • The finished model is roughly 55 mm long
  • Waterslide decals and instructions in the package
  • The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted

Building and painting tips

Because of the scale the parts are very small, so work over a mat with a raised edge and leave them on the sprue as long as you can. Dry-fit before gluing, above all on the running gear and the superstructure. Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down. Lay the paint on in thin coats, so that the fine surface detail does not disappear, and only onto the finished paint come the decals and the dusting.

Who it is for

For the collector of German Second World War vehicles who is also interested in vehicles outside the main run of tanks. Because of the size of the parts it suits a more experienced modeler.

The package holds plastic parts, decals and instructions. Paints, glue and varnishes are not included, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

A German artillery observation vehicle built on the chassis of a captured British Light Tank Mk VI. It served observers who directed fire from it.

German designation used it to mark captured British equipment. In that system the number 736 belonged precisely to the Light Tank Mk VI.

Roughly 55 mm long. The real subject was a small light tank, so the model is small too in 1:72 scale.

Rather not. The parts are small and the build rewards patience, tweezers and dry-fitting.
