A set of photo-etched metal parts in 1:72 scale for a model of the Boeing Chinook HC.1 transport helicopter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Chinook carries two large main rotors in tandem that turn against each other. Their torques cancel each other out, so the machine needs no tail rotor and can use all its power to carry a load. It stands on wheeled landing gear and has a ramp at the rear that folds down for loading into the through cargo compartment. The designation HC.1 was carried by machines in British service.
The set contains photo-etched metal parts for 1:72 scale. Photo-etching is done by chemically removing material from thin sheet, so the parts are delicate and have sharp edges. In a small scale the difference from plastic shows most, because a plastic part cannot be thinner than the mold allows. The elements are held on tabs in a common fret and are cut out of it one at a time, only when their turn comes.
Separate them with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with nippers. Sand the remains of the tab off with fine abrasive paper so that the part seats flat on the model. Make the bend along the scored line in one movement, best of all in a bending tool or between two blades. They are bonded with super glue; plastic cement will not join metal. Before painting, degrease the parts and go over them with a primer.
The set is intended for modelers for whom a shape merely suggested on a plastic part is not enough and who want genuinely thin elements even in a small scale. The work calls for tweezers, good light and a calm approach. The model, paints and glue are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
