Markings in 1:72 scale for the Belgian Hercules transport in the finish with which the unit celebrated thirty years of operating the type.
Responsibility details are not available.
Belgium brought twelve Hercules transports into service at the beginning of the 1970s and concentrated them in a single squadron at the Melsbroek base near Brussels. The aircraft served a full half century, and over that time they reached humanitarian and supply flights practically all over the world, before a more modern European type took over from them. With this unit a round anniversary was traditionally celebrated with a special finish on one selected airframe, and it is exactly that appearance which the print captures.
Besides the anniversary motif the sheet contains Belgian national insignia, fuselage codes and the accompanying lettering for the machine in 1:72 scale. You therefore need no further markings to finish the model. On transport aircraft the anniversary motifs are concentrated on the tail surface and the forward part of the fuselage, where they read best in photographs.
The fuselage of a transport aircraft offers long flat panels on which every hesitation shows. Before laying the long elements down, therefore, mark out a horizontal line along a row of rivets or a panel joint and keep to it along the whole length, or the deviation will add up toward the end of the fuselage and the difference will be obvious at first glance.
The print assumes a built and varnished Hercules model in the same scale. You will not find plastic parts, resin castings or photo-etched sheets here; the contents are purely a printed sheet. A reserve of patience comes in handy too, because a transport machine carries considerably more small lettering than a fighter.
