Pre-cut masking stencils of so-called kabuki paper for the model of the Lockheed C-130H in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker New Ware. It is an accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The set is in the Basic release, that is, in the most basic extent of the offered trio Basic, Advanced and Expert, which differ from one another in the breadth of coverage. The specific list of masked areas and the number of pieces on the sheet are given in the instructions with the set.
The frames of the glazing on a transport aircraft are long and straight, so a mistake on them shows up immediately. Tracing by hand with a brush gives an uneven width of line, while a decal does not sit on a curved cockpit and breaks over an edge. A pre-cut mask gets around this problem: you apply the paint with an airbrush exactly where it belongs, and the frame looks like part of the paint, not like something stuck on top. Kabuki paper is thin, it adapts to a slight rounding and after removal it leaves a sharp edge with no residue of adhesive.
First degrease the glazing and let it dry completely; on a greasy surface a mask does not hold. Take the parts out of the sheet with tweezers and offer them up so that the edge does not fold over. Once stuck down, run a wooden toothpick or a blunt tip along the edge of the mask so that it adheres along its whole length, as that is where the paint most often runs underneath. Spray the paint in several very thin coats; one heavy coat is the main cause of running and peeling. Remove the mask while the paint is still tacky, not after it has fully cured; that lowers the risk of tearing the new paint off as well.
This is a masking set, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
