The Mil Mi-4 is a Soviet helicopter of the 1950s with a capacious cargo cabin and a main rotor with four blades. Cargo and troops were loaded into it through rear doors in the tail of the fuselage, which made the machine a versatile means of transport. The Mi-4A version was meant for transport and assault tasks, and machines of this type served in a number of countries.
This is a photo-etched set in 1:48 scale for a model of the Mi-4A helicopter. A photo-etched part has the real thickness of sheet metal, that is tenths of a millimeter, and therefore looks different on a model from a part of the same shape in plastic, which has to be substantially thicker for production reasons. The particular range of the fret, the list of parts and the kit the set is cut for are given in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard backing, not by breaking them out, otherwise the edge will tear. Make the bends in a bending tool or between the jaws of flat tweezers and proceed in small steps, because photo-etching once folded is straightened only with difficulty. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minute amount; on larger areas two-part epoxy is more suitable, as it leaves time to seat the part precisely. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts and apply a thin coat of primer, otherwise the paint will hold badly on the smooth surface. Follow the instructions for the assembly procedure and the order of the parts.
