Eduard 1:72 Consolidated B-24H Liberator bomb bay is a full photo-etched set for the bomb bay area of the heavy bomber in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This Eduard photo-etched set covers the bomb bay area of the B-24H bomber in 1:72 scale in full. An open bomb bay is one of the most attractive features of a Liberator model, and photo-etch offers a delicacy here that plastic parts cannot reach. The set supplements a plastic kit; the aircraft model is not included in it.
The Liberator carried its load in two tandem bomb bays which, instead of the usual hinged doors, opened like roller shutters - the doors rolled up along the sides of the fuselage, which reduced drag during the drop. The bomber could therefore carry up to several tons of bombs, and its part in the air war over both Europe and the Pacific was exceptional. The H version represents one of the high points of the type, with strengthened defensive armament.
With larger photo-etched assemblies it pays to work in sub-assemblies and keep checking that the walls are square. Apply the cyanoacrylate in spots; on large joints a gel version helps, because it gives you time to adjust the position. Paint only once the assembly is complete, ideally by spraying thin coats so that the detail is not flooded.
The bomb bay takes the most time of the whole build, because it is made up of repeating bulkheads and beams. Split it across several evenings and put the finished sub-assemblies away in a closed box.
