The Vampire belonged to the first generation of British jet fighters. A short fuselage nacelle with the pilot's cockpit was completed by a pair of booms carrying the tail surfaces, which shortened the engine's exhaust duct. The F.3 version brought changes to the fuel system and revised tail surfaces that improved the behavior of the aircraft. The FB.5 that followed was a fighter-bomber variant with clipped wingtips, a strengthened undercarriage and the ability to carry armament under the wing, intended for use against ground targets.
The work ends only with the final varnish. Once the decals are dry, wipe the area with a damp cloth so that no remains of adhesive and softener are left on it, which would show as blotches under the varnish. Only then spray the unifying varnish at the level of sheen the subject had; a matte or semi-matte surface will swallow the edges of the carrier film and the markings will look like part of the finish. Lay the varnish on in several thin coats, as one heavy coat could dissolve or shift the decal.
