Responsibility details are not available.
The Dewoitine D.520 was the only French production fighter that could measure up to its German opponents in May and June 1940. A Hispano-Suiza V engine powered it and the main weapon was a twenty-millimeter cannon firing through the hollow shaft of the propeller, supplemented by machine guns in the wing. It reached the fighting late, however, and in small numbers.
After the armistice the machines went on serving with units in unoccupied territory and in the colonies; later you will meet them in Bulgarian, Romanian and Italian colors, and in Germany they were used as trainers. For a modeler that means an unusually wide choice of camouflage schemes, from the French three-color patches to the later single-color finishes, and all on one and the same airframe.
The cockpit has a sliding cover with prominent longitudinal frames and, with it, glazing behind the pilot's head, which is often forgotten. Pieces laid with tweezers hold by themselves; the edges only need pressing down at the curves. A small model stands only a thin coat of paint, otherwise the frames thicken and the proportions go astray. The inner side of the glazing can be painted over with the interior color before gluing, so that bare plastic does not shine through.
