A plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Polish maker Hobby 2000. The brand builds its sets on the plastic of other manufacturers and completes them with its own equipment: in this issue it is injection-molded parts from Hasegawa, to which it adds new decals and self-adhesive masks for the glazing. The boxing is focused on French machines of 1940. According to the manufacturer the finished model measures around 119 millimeters.
The Dewoitine D.520 was the most capable fighter that the French Air Force had in line service in 1940. It was powered by a liquid-cooled twelve-cylinder Hispano-Suiza 12Y-45 and the armament consisted of an HS.404 cannon of 20 mm caliber firing through the hollow propeller shaft and four MAC 1934 machine guns of 7.5 mm caliber in the wing. It held respectable results against German fighters, but came late and in small numbers. After the fighting stopped in June 1940 the type did not disappear from the scene: it flew with the Vichy French Air Force and with the Free French forces, and some machines ended up abroad.
Mask the canopy glazing with the self-adhesive masks supplied, as it will save hours of work with tape. Spray the French three-tone camouflage with finely softened transitions; sharp edges look unnatural with this finish. Before the decals, varnish the surface to a gloss, or silvering will appear along the edges. Remove the painting mask from the windows only after the matte varnishing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
