Waterslide decals in 1:72 scale from the British manufacturer Xtradecal, devoted to the Dornier Do 24 flying boat in the T version. The sheet contains decals only, no construction parts: it is meant to mark a model you already have built and painted. The particular machines, operators and the extent of the markings are given by the manufacturer on the packaging and in the instructions inside.
The Dornier Do 24 was a three-engined all-metal flying boat with a high-mounted wing, lateral stabilizing sponsons extending from the hull and a twin vertical tail. It was originally created for long-range patrol and rescue duties over the sea, and in that role it proved itself so well that it was built and used long after the Second World War as well. The T version was the production form with radial engines. The machines served with several European countries, among other things in rescue services, where they carried conspicuous yellow and red warning areas.
The hull of a flying boat is tall, rounded and in its forward part curves sharply toward the keel. Decals placed on such a surface call for patience: do not lay the film down all at once, but place its middle first and press the edges down gradually from the center outward, so that the surplus does not gather into folds. Under larger pieces it is good to add a drop of water and to fine-tune the edge with a damp brush. On sharp curves reach for a stronger softener and reckon with needing two or three applications. A marking on the sponsons and the bottom of the hull is better divided into smaller parts, if the shape of the decal allows.
A decal sheet is not a kit. The model, paints, varnish and glue are not included in the package.
