An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Douglas F4D-1 Skyray carrier interceptor in 1:72 scale from Tamiya. The model is marked by finely engraved panel lines, a faithfully rendered delta wing, a detailed cockpit and landing gear bays. The enclosed clear canopy allows both closed and open glazing. The set holds external stores and decals for several marking variants. The definitive list of parts and marking schemes is given in the instructions in the box.
The Douglas F4D-1 Skyray was an American carrier interceptor of the 1950s with an unmistakable delta wing, whose shape earned it a nickname referring to a ray. The real aircraft first flew at the beginning of the 1950s and in its day broke records for speed and rate of climb. It served with the US Navy and the Marine Corps as a fast-climbing interceptor for catching enemy aircraft. Its aerodynamically clean silhouette is among the icons of the early jet era.
Pay attention to the joining of the delta wing and the fuselage so that the fine panel lines stay intact. Paint the cockpit and set it in before closing the fuselage; mask the glazing and paint it carefully. Use a base coat, the main shades with an airbrush (typically a gloss naval finish), a gloss coat under the decals and then a matte or satin overcoat. A light wash will bring out the panel lines. Finish the external stores and the landing gear at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
