The set offers a cast tarpaulin and the related small parts for a model of the amphibious cargo vehicle. The casting replaces the empty cargo area and gives the build the silhouette of a truck ready to move out. The base model is obtained separately.
The vehicle was created by converting a production truck into a craft with a boat hull, a propeller and a rudder. It could take a load on board a ship, swim to the shore and carry on by land all the way to the target, which did away with slow transshipment. That is exactly why it became one of the key means of the Allied landing operations in Europe and in the Pacific. Crews also valued the fact that the truck handled soft sand thanks to its central tire inflation system.
Canvas looks best when the stretched frame can be made out beneath it. So spray the base shade, flow a darker tone into the folds and go over the ridges with an almost dry brush and a lighter color. Salt and seawater left pale dried patches on tarpaulins, so fine stains at the edges look true to life. Before gluing, offer the casting up and check that it seats around the whole perimeter with no visible gap at the side rails.
