A white motif on a dark base

The white release of this film aims where a rich color would disappear: on black paint, on darkly tinted glass, on an anthracite cabinet or on the lid of a dark case. The area measures 100 mm wide and 56 mm high. The drawing is cut out, so the white stays only where the motif is and the rest of the area is transparent.

The material

The carrier is a thin self-adhesive film from advertising graphics. The shade is a property of the material, not a print that could be scraped off with a fingernail or wiped away with solvent. The manufacturer lists the film among goods for outdoor use, so ultraviolet radiation and rain do not harm it and the surface can be wiped with a damp cloth.

White is at the same time the most universal choice for glazing. On a car window as well as on a glass display case the outline stays legible against the sky as well as against a dark interior, because a white area is sufficient in itself and needs no light base underneath. That is exactly why the same film appears on shop windows and on the doors of business premises.

Sticking it on with no tools

Anyone can manage the procedure. Wash the place you have chosen, wipe it with alcohol, wait until it is completely dry and lay the film down by one side first. Then lower the other side slowly and squeeze the air out with your fingers toward the free edge. If a bubble is left after all, pierce it with the tip of a needle and smooth the area down with a soft cloth.

What it is not

Souvenir goods of this kind work differently from a modeling decal. A decal releases from its paper backing in water, it is a few hundredths of a millimeter thick and once it has dried it merges with the paint of the part. Here it is a self-adhesive material of ordinary thickness, which is applied dry and whose edge is visible on a model.
