This accessory in cast resin replaces the arresting hook on a model of the two-seat F-4 Phantom II fighter and attack aircraft in 1:72 scale. It is not a model of an aircraft but a standalone part for building a model you already have. Quickboost is a range of the Aires brand focused on small replacement parts where the gain in detail is out of all proportion to the work put in.
The arresting hook is a subtle elongated part under the rear of the fuselage. In injection plastic it tends to be thicker than it should be because of the need to get it out of the mold, and in the small 1:72 scale that is glaring, because the real hook is thin. A casting in resin can be made finer, with a sharper transition from the arm into the end fitting. The hook can also be fitted in the lowered position on a model on a deck or just after touchdown, which brings an otherwise static silhouette to life.
First wash the casting in lukewarm water with dish soap — residue of the mold release agent worsens the adhesion of paint. Cut the casting block off with a thin saw; do not snap the part off, as the thin arm of the hook would break. Sand resin damp and with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Try the seating dry before gluing and check the angle — the hook has to follow the contours of the rear fuselage. In color it is dealt with as a combination of a metal arm and a striped end; apply the paint over a base coat, so that it does not slide on the smooth resin, and add the patina only after the main clear coat.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and with no model. Paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package.
