A photo-etched metal fret in 1:72 scale for a model of the F-4E Phantom II. An accessory for a kit, not the kit itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-4E is one of the standards of the American two-seat Phantom II fighter, which served with the US Air Force and the US Navy alike and became one of the most widespread combat aircraft of its day. It can be told from the older versions by its lengthened nose with a gun built permanently into the airframe; the previous standards relied on guided missiles alone and had to carry a gun in an external pod. The Phantom was a large, heavy and noisy machine, and its model has a rewardingly busy surface.
Photo-etch suits a model everywhere the real part is as thin as sheet metal. Injection-molded plastic cannot get below a certain thickness, so grilles, plates, belt buckles and small covers look like glued-on blocks on a model. A metal fret, by contrast, is thin and the artwork is etched into it sharply. The extent of the fret and the list of parts are given in the enclosed instructions.
Cut the parts out of the fret on a hard surface with a sharp blade, not with nippers, which bend the metal. Make the bends over the edge of a steel ruler or in a bending tool, always along the marked groove and in one movement. Photo-etch is not glued with polystyrene cement; it is held by super glue applied in a really small amount. Degrease the surface before painting and go over it with a base color, otherwise the finish will not hold on smooth metal.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
