About product

Fairey Battle Mk.I masks 1:72 (Special Mask)

A set of cut masks for a model of the British Fairey Battle Mk.I light bomber in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit and not decals, but an aid to painting: you stick the masks onto the clear parts and then spray the frames in the same color as the rest of the airframe. The Battle is a typical candidate for an accessory of this kind — its long glazed cabin has a considerable number of frames, and in 1:72 scale they are so thin that cutting tape by hand takes more time than all the rest of the build.

The real subject

The Fairey Battle was a single-engine all-metal light bomber of British manufacture from the second half of the 1930s, powered by a V12 engine of the same pedigree as the fighters of the period. On paper it was a modern machine, but in reality it proved slow and weakly defended, so during the fighting in France its units suffered heavy losses and the machine was soon moved to second-line and training duties. To this day it remains a rewarding subject precisely because of its distinctive long cabin.

Usage tips

Wash the clear parts before masking and let them dry. Lift the individual masks off with tweezers, lay them in place dry and press the edges down with a soft tool. It works well to spray a thin coat in the color of the interior or in a base shade first, so that any creeping is not visible, and only then comes the top camouflage. Spray thinly, so that no step forms at the edge of the mask. Take the mask off shortly after spraying and keep the rest of the sheet on its original backing, which protects it from dust.

Who the masks are for

  • Builders of British equipment in 1:72 scale
  • Modelers who do not want to cut dozens of small frames out by hand
  • Anyone interested in clean and even edges on the glazing
  • Those who want to cut short the most time-consuming part of painting

The masks are an accessory for a model. The kit and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is purely a set of masks intended for a model of the Fairey Battle Mk.I in 1:72 scale, which you buy separately.

The cabin of the Battle has a lot of thin frames. Pre-cut masks guarantee that they will all be the same width and straight, which is hard to achieve with tape cut by hand at this scale.

Press the edges of the mask down carefully and spray the first coat in a base shade or in the color of the interior. Then put the top camouflage on thinly in several coats.

Masks are cut to the particular shape of the parts, so they are always tied to a specific form of kit. Please check their suitability for your model against the manufacturer's instructions.
