A Fi 156 C-3 Nachtschlacht conversion set in 1:72 from AML turns a Storch from an Academy, Airfix, Heller or Smer kit into a night ground-attack machine - a version of a well-known type that is not seen everywhere.

This conversion set from the Czech brand AML makes it possible to turn an ordinary Storch model from an Academy, Airfix, Heller or Smer kit in 1:72 scale into a night ground-attack Fi 156 C-3. It is not a complete kit - the set reckons on your already having the base model of the aircraft, and it moves it toward a less usual form that is not often met on exhibition tables.
The Fieseler Fi 156 Storch became famous for its unbelievably short takeoff and landing and for its ability to hang almost motionless into the wind. It served as a liaison, observation and ambulance aircraft on every front of the Second World War. In the later stages of the conflict light types also took part in night ground-attack operations - under cover of darkness they struck at rear-area targets and robbed the enemy of sleep. The modification for those duties gave the otherwise unassuming Storch a surprisingly warlike character, and modelers a rewarding subject.
Before you cut into the model, plan out which areas the conversion affects and make any cuts gradually, trying the parts as you go. A night machine suits dark camouflage with a matte surface; light highlighting of the panel edges saves the model from uniform black, and the staining from the exhausts rounds out a used look. A darkened cabin with a dimly lit instrument panel gives the build the atmosphere of a night flight.
