This short-run plastic kit from the manufacturer Sword represents the TBM-3W Guppy - the radar version of the carrier-based Avenger for airborne early warning (AEW). Its characteristic element is the large ventral radome of the radar antenna. The model in 1:72 scale is supplied unassembled and unpainted and is suitable for more experienced modelers.
The TBM-3W came about by converting the Avenger torpedo aircraft (built by General Motors) into a carrier for a search radar. Under the fuselage it carried a bulky antenna radome, which earned it the nickname Guppy. It was one of the first carrier-based airborne early warning aircraft and a predecessor of the later specialized AEW machines. Besides the US Navy it served with other navies as well.
On a short-run kit try the parts dry and count on careful cleaning up and possibly on filling. The large antenna radome calls for a careful fit with the fuselage. Use a thin cement for plastic; an airbrush, a base coat and a gloss coat under the decals suit naval schemes.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
