A plastic kit of the British single-seat fighter Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIC in 1:72 scale from Zvezda. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and the parts are injection-molded polystyrene. The 1:72 scale is one of the most widespread for aircraft: a finished model takes up little room in the display case and the Hurricane sits well there alongside other machines of its day.
Alongside the Spitfire, the Hurricane was the second main fighter of the Royal Air Force at the start of the war. It had mixed construction with a tube-frame fuselage covered in fabric, which made repairs in field conditions easier. The Mk.IIC version received the Rolls-Royce Merlin XX engine and a wing armed with four 20 mm cannon. It was this version that saw wide use beyond classic air combat as well, as a fighter-bomber and on night tasks, and it served in the Mediterranean, in North Africa and in the Far East theater.
Start with the cockpit: once the fuselage is closed the interior is only partly visible, but it pays to paint it before you glue the halves together. Fill and sand the seams on the fuselage and the leading edges. Apply a primer before painting, as it evens the surface out and reveals unfinished spots. On British aircraft of that period you will commonly meet a two-color camouflage on the upper surfaces and a light underside; the exact shades, however, differ with the period and the theater, so work from the instructions and from period sources. Spray a gloss coat under the decals, overcoat with matte once dry and add a light weathering of exhaust stains.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
