A set of cast resin wheels for a kit of the British Hawker Tempest Mk.V fighter in 1:72 scale, done according to the early variant. It is not a model of the aircraft but a replacement for parts of the landing gear. Wheels are among the parts that usually suffer most in plastic from the parting line of the mold — a seam runs exactly across the middle of the tire and is hard to remove without damaging the tread. A resin casting gets around this problem and offers a clean surface and clearer detail on the hub. The manufacturer is the Czech brand Brengun.
The Hawker Tempest Mk.V was a British single-engine fighter aircraft of the end of World War II, powered by the Napier Sabre H-24 engine and armed with four 20 mm cannon. Its main landing gear retracted into the wing toward the fuselage and carried fairly large wheels — on an aircraft that took off from improvised surfaces it was a heavily loaded part of the airframe. During production the design of the wheels changed, which is why the manufacturer offers the early and the late variant as two separate items. For a faithful model it is therefore important to know which particular machine you are building and to choose the variant accordingly.
Wash the wheels in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the release agent is removed. The casting block tends to be on the contact surface of the tire or on the rim of the hub — cut it off with a saw and level the surface on sandpaper laid on glass, so that the wheel stands straight. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). When painting, separate the hub from the tire with masking tape or a template; the tire should not be coal black, as a dark gray shade looks better and after a light dusting with pigment comes close to real rubber.
It is an accessory to a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
