An injection-molded plastic kit of the American JB-2 Loon guided missile in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer MAC Distribution. This is not a piloted aircraft but an unmanned weapon, the American copy of the German V-1. The short-run model comes with a photo-etched fret for the fine parts, such as the shutters of the pulsejet intake. Given the nature of the molds it suits rather more experienced modelers. Glue and paints are not included in the package.
The JB-2 Loon was the American copy of the German V-1 guided missile, which the United States developed in 1944 from captured wreckage. It kept the characteristic pulsejet above the rear fuselage as well as the overall layout of the V-1. It was originally to be used in the planned invasion of Japan, but it never saw combat. Over a thousand were built, and the missile served mainly for test and development work with the Army Air Forces and the Navy until the turn of the 1940s and 1950s, when it helped to develop the American guided missile program.
Clean up the short-run parts carefully and dry-fit them; glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. The model can be displayed on a stand or on a period launching trolley, depending on the version you choose. Lay single-color schemes on with an airbrush, for instance the all-blue naval one or the white test finish. A fine wash will bring out the panel lines, and a final varnish will tie the surface together.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
