The light armored vehicle of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force is a four-wheeled armored car intended for carrying a small detachment, for reconnaissance and for command tasks. It has an enclosed armored body with side doors, firing ports and a low silhouette, thanks to which it is easy to conceal and simple to transport. The commander version carries a weapon station on the roof and smoke grenade launchers, which serve to screen the vehicle quickly when it is threatened. The type is among the most widespread wheeled equipment of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces and also appears on missions abroad.
The model is small, but the equipment on the roof holds fine parts where it pays to work under a magnifier and with good lighting. Glue the smoke grenade launchers and the machine gun on only after the base shade has been painted, as it is otherwise hard to reach them with a brush. The body has large flat surfaces, so sand the parting lines on them carefully. Apply a primer before the paint goes on and mask the glazing. Japanese equipment tends to come in a dark two-tone scheme with sharp transitions, which are done well with masking tape; at the end add a fine wash into the engraved lines and dry dust on the wheels and the lower hull.
