KAB-500 L/SE 1:72 with optional guidance heads

The package offers two bombs of the half-ton weight class and with them both forms of the front section, the laser and the satellite one. Enclosed are BD3-USK racks with front and rear lugs, guidance sensors and decals. The material is printed resin.

Two routes to the same target

The five-hundred is the most widespread Russian guided bomb, because even lighter aircraft can carry it and it can be carried in greater numbers. The laser head calls for continuous illumination of the target and excels against point objects; the satellite version knows the target in advance and allows release from a safe altitude out of sight. Both solutions are therefore used side by side, and swapping the head also changes the shape of the nose of the bomb. The weapon appears under the Su-24, Su-30 and Su-34 and under modernized MiG-27 and MiG-29 aircraft.

Consider before building

Decide on one of the heads before you start sanding, because the nose shapes differ and it is hard to put right afterward. The lugs of the rack are tiny; take them out with tweezers over a tray so that they do not get lost. A smaller bomb takes somewhat more pronounced panel line work than the heavy types, because its surface has more going on.
