Dead Design 1:72 Ki-27 Nate national insignia masks are templates for spraying the Japanese national insignia onto a model of the prewar fighter with fixed landing gear.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Dead Design set is intended to get the Japanese national insignia onto a model by spraying, not with a decal. The template is laid on finished paint, the insignia is sprayed over it and once it is peeled away a clean shape is left. Neither the fighter kit nor the paints are included in the package; it is purely an aid to painting.
The Ki-27 was a single-engine fighter with fixed, faired landing gear and fabric-covered control surfaces, that is a machine from the turn of two design eras. In 1:72 scale the model is small and the insignia on the wings take up a fairly large part of their area. It is precisely on small models that a slight inaccuracy shows most: a decal that shifts by half a millimeter is visible on a finished aircraft at first glance. A mask fixes the placement, because you lay it on and can check the position at leisure before spraying.
The gear fairing and the lower surface of the wing are not flat, so lay the mask from the middle toward the edges and press the edge down gradually, so that it does not lift anywhere. Lay the paint on in drier, thinner passes, because a rich coat easily creeps under the edge. Before you lift the mask, check that the paint has not merely dried on the surface but is really holding. Adhesive residue can be removed with a fine swab and alcohol, but always only once the coat has cured fully.
