The Kittyhawk Mk.III P-40 K masking set from Art Scale is an accessory for a kit, not an airplane model. It serves for covering the clear parts while spraying, so that the cockpit framing comes out straight and with a sharp transition between the paint and the glass. The designation one-sided in the name means that it is a single-sided set intended for the outer side of the glazing. The masks are cut for the Special Hobby kit.
The Curtiss P-40 was a single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber with a liquid-cooled V12 Allison V-1710 engine and a characteristic radiator under the nose. The designation Kittyhawk Mk.III was used by Commonwealth air forces for machines corresponding to the American P-40K and P-40M versions. The type was employed above all in North Africa and the Mediterranean and further in the Pacific, where alongside air combat it often carried out missions against ground targets. The P-40 K version differed from the older machines in increased engine output and in changes in the fin area that offset the greater propeller torque.
Wash and degrease the clear part first so that the adhesive of the mask holds. Lift the individual parts off the carrier film with tweezers, lay them on the frame and press them down with a soft tool, say a wooden toothpick, so that the edges seat along their whole length. On curves, a small fan-shaped nick or careful trimming with a sharp scalpel right on the part helps, with minimal pressure only. Spray the interior shade of the cockpit first, then the base coat and only at the end the top color. Keep the coats thin, otherwise a ridge forms under the edge of the mask which leaves a step once it is lifted. Take the mask off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch; with slow-drying enamels, rather wait longer.
It is an accessory for a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
