The tire of a real vehicle flattens where it meets the ground under the weight of the machine, and the sidewall bulges a little above that place. A model with perfectly round wheels therefore always looks a bit as though it were floating. Replacement wheels with the deformation suggested remove that impression and the vehicle leans on its base. It makes sense above all on a model on a display base or in a diorama, where the vehicle stands on soft ground. The flattened part has to point down to the ground when it is fitted, otherwise the whole effect turns against you.
The Willys was an American light off-road car of the Second World War, built in hundreds of thousands and used by the Allied armies on every front. Its simple angular shape and exposed wheels make it a rewarding subject, on which the running gear is out in the open and the wheels form a substantial part of the silhouette.
Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and carefully sand the rest away, so that you do not spoil the pattern on the tread. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Fit the wheels only after the vehicle has been sprayed and turn them so that the flattening comes down on the base. Secure the joint with cyanoacrylate glue. The particular way to prepare the parts is given by the manufacturer in the enclosed instructions.
