Landing gear bay masks for the Lightning F.1, F.3 and F.6 in 1:72 scale are based on the outlines of the Trumpeter kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The British interceptor has an unusually solved underside of the airframe and the space for the main landing gear in the thin wing is among its recognition marks. The covering set closes these openings on a model for the time of the spraying. The shapes are based on the kit of the Trumpeter brand, which sets this item apart from the sibling variant for another manufacturer.
The Lightning was exceptional in many respects. Its two Rolls-Royce Avon powerplants do not sit side by side but are arranged obliquely one above the other in the fuselage, by which the designers narrowed the frontal area. A sharply swept lifting surface with a clipped tip and the main landing gear retracting outward into the wing made it possible to place fuel inside. The machine's rate of climb was among the best any air force of the day had at its disposal, and the pilots described a takeoff with the afterburner as a ride on a rocket. The F.1 sub-version began service at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, the F.3 brought stronger engines and a larger vertical tail and the late F.6 received an improved wing and the option of carrying tanks above it. With the Royal Air Force the type stayed in service until the end of the 1980s.
Especially with silvery and natural metal surfaces every imperfect edge is noticed, so do not spare time on seating the covering. Finish the inner surfaces and let them cure, then close the openings and turn to the glossy surface. Lay metal shades on a smooth base and in thin coats.
