A set of machine-cut self-adhesive masks for building the model of the long-range bomber Tu-22M2 in 1:72 scale. The masks are cut to the shape of the parts of a particular kit, which is stated in the product name, and they need not fit a model of another origin. The BASIC designation describes the extent of the set: it is the basic version aimed at the main glazed areas. The extended steps that New Ware offers for some of its sets hold further masking elements on top of this basis. Choose the step, then, according to how much of the masking you want prepared in advance.
The cockpit glazing of the Tu-22M2 is broken up and the frames are very thin in 1:72 scale. Tape cut by hand waves at the edge, paint runs under it, and the time spent cutting bears no comparison with a pre-cut mask. A mask holds the exact shape of the frame, can be pressed down onto the glass and comes off in one piece after spraying.
The Tu-22M is a twin-engine supersonic bomber with a variable-geometry wing and a crew of several. The M2 version belongs to the early production of the type and differs from the later machines in the layout of the forward part of the fuselage. It is exactly the long, broken-up cockpit canopy that makes the most work when building the model.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
