The set is not a kit of the helicopter; it is a replacement for the landing gear wheels, completed by masks that make painting easier. Resin wheels have a sharper tread pattern, a well-drawn rim and as a rule a flattening at the contact patch, so the model looks weighted down on its base.
Wheels and masks
The masks serve to separate the tire and the rim, which in a small scale is work that is hard to do with a brush. With a mask you will paint both the rim and the tire cleanly and without overruns. The main content of the set is the resin castings, and the masks are an accompanying aid.
The Mil Mi-17 is a twin-engine multipurpose helicopter derived from the Mi-8 type, with more powerful engines and a changed arrangement of the power plant. In the NATO code designation it belongs to the Hip family. The machine is used in the transport, cargo and support roles with a great number of operators all over the world.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release agent is removed, otherwise neither paint nor mask will hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the surface with a file and sanding paper wet, with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue, that is, with cyanoacrylate. Apply a primer before painting. Paint the tire matte and never pure black, as a dark gray shade looks more faithful in a small scale. Stick the mask on only once the paint is perfectly dry and take it off soon, not after several days. Glue the wheels onto the landing gear legs last, so that the flattening seats parallel to the base.
This is a detailing accessory, not a kit of the helicopter. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
