The Mi-24 is a Soviet attack helicopter that combines a gunship with a transport: under the armored front section the weapons operator sits in one of two separate cockpits one behind the other, with the pilot above and behind him, while the rear part of the fuselage kept room for several soldiers. Stub wings with pylons for armament extend from the sides. The V version is among the most widespread and you recognize it by the rounded front cover of the forward cockpit.
In 1:72 scale a model is small, but the shapes on it still have to stay true to scale. Injection-molded plastic has its limits: grilles, thin sheet metal, frames and small brackets come out thicker in it than they should, because otherwise they could not be taken out of the mold. Etched metal is as thin as real sheet, so it refines exactly these features on a model.
The parts are held in the fret by thin tabs. Separate them with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by twisting, and sand the remainder of the tab down. Make the bends over a straight edge, best in a bending tool or between two blades, so that they come out sharp. Photo-etch is glued with cyanoacrylate or two-part glue; cement for polystyrene does not hold on metal. Before painting, degrease the parts and coat them with a primer, otherwise the paint will not last on smooth metal. Work over a surface with a raised edge, because a small part that springs away is never found.
The set is for modelers who build the Mi-24V in 1:72 scale and are not afraid of working with small metal parts. The kit, paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
