Decals 1:72 for two Swiss reconnaissance Mirage IIIRS machines, R2110 and R2116, in a black and a white form.
Responsibility details are not available.
The IIIRS version came about for the Swiss Air Force as a reconnaissance adaptation with a shortened nose full of cameras instead of a radar. The machines served from underground hangars in Alpine valleys and their career reaches deep into the time when Swiss defense relied on dispersal into rock massifs. The set captures a pair of airframes with the numbers R2110 and R2116 in striking special finishes, one of which is dark and the other light – hence the pair in the name.
On one sheet there are the markings for both aircraft: large-area motifs, Swiss crosses, the airframe numbers and the unit lettering. A modeler chooses one of the machines, or builds both if he has two kits.
The base differs fundamentally between the two machines, so a different spray job has to be reckoned with depending on which variant you are building.
In 1:72 the motifs are small and the carrier film is hard to hide on them. A surface as smooth and glossy as possible and a sharp cut close to the artwork help. Dose the water with a brush drop by drop, so that a small piece does not float away. On a dark finish, check the coverage of the light characters on an offcut beforehand; at small dimensions show-through tends to be more noticeable. Once finished, seal the surface with a varnish corresponding to the sheen of the real subject. One more note on the choice: both real subjects are so different visually that side by side in a display case they look more like two different types than like sister machines of one force. That is exactly what is tempting about this pair.
