1:72 Mitsubishi A6M5a/b/c model 52 Reisen Control Surfaces is a Dead Design masking set for spraying the control surfaces of the late versions of this Japanese carrier fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of self-adhesive masks for the control surfaces of a model of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M5 carrier fighter in the a, b and c versions, collectively designated model 52, in 1:72 scale. Reisen is the Japanese designation of the type. A shade is sprayed over the masks to draw out the ribbing of the fabric covering on the ailerons and the rudder.
The model 52 had a shortened wing with rounded tips that no longer folded, and a revised exhaust system with individual stacks led out along the sides of the engine cowling. The a, b and c versions differed from one another mainly in armament and pilot protection, but the external shape of the airframe stayed the same, so the masking set covers them together.
The control surface effect goes well with work on the panel lines, but the order has to be right. The camouflage first, then the masks and the emphasizing pass, then the gloss coat and the decals, and only at the very end the emphasis of the engraved lines with a paneliner or a wash. Bring the lines out earlier and the emphasizing pass will mute their contrast and you will repeat the work. It is also worth bearing in mind that fabric surfaces wore differently in practice from metal skinning, so go easy with scuffed areas on the ailerons during the final weathering.
The package holds masking material only. The model, paints and a wash are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
