An injection-molded kit of the Japanese F-2 combat aircraft in 1:72 scale. The A/B designation refers to the single-seat and two-seat forms of the type; the release is tied to machines of the 3rd Squadron and to markings from an international exercise held in 2023.
The F-2 came about in Japan on the basis of the American F-16 design, but it differs from it in a substantially larger wing with a high proportion of composites, a modified fuselage and its own onboard electronics. It is powered by a single turbojet with an afterburner, and the machine was built from the outset above all for anti-ship strikes over the sea, without losing the ability to fight in the air. The dark blue scheme over Japanese waters is characteristic too and sets the aircraft apart from the gray machines of other countries.
The blue-gray camouflage scheme comes into its own when the individual shades are sprayed in thin coats over a light primer and not allowed to merge. Glue the external stores and tanks on only after the airframe has been finished, or the mounting points will be hard to mask. The clear parts of the canopy are large on this type, so the transition between frame and glass calls for good masks or carefully cut tape. Unify the surface with a gloss varnish before the decals and knock the whole thing back at the end.
You get the kit unassembled and unpainted; paints and glue have to be bought as well.
