A kit of the American prototype anti-aircraft vehicle Multiple Gun Motor Carriage T52 in 1:72 scale from the UM brand. A subject that appears in kits only exceptionally.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of the American self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicle carried under the designation Multiple Gun Motor Carriage T52, in 1:72 scale from the Ukrainian brand UM. This is a prototype vehicle which never reached series production, so as a kit subject it counts as a real rarity. The contents of the package and the number of parts are given on the packaging.
The designation Multiple Gun Motor Carriage was used by the US Army for self-propelled anti-aircraft weapon systems with several barrels. The T52 arose as an attempt to get anti-aircraft defense onto the fully tracked chassis of a medium tank, that is, onto a basis that was able to keep pace with tank units off the road as well. That was a substantial change compared with the earlier solutions on half-track chassis, whose cross-country mobility was limited. The weapon station combined an automatic gun of 40 mm caliber with machine guns of 12.7 mm caliber, so as to cover both more distant and close targets. The vehicle remained at the stage of trials - development progressed slowly and in the meantime the urgency of the need for anti-aircraft defense of ground units fell, so series production never came.
The main attention on this model is deserved by the weapon station: in 1:72 scale the barrels and their mounts are thin and they bend or break off easily, so glue them and fit them only at the end of the build, once the surroundings have been painted. Assemble the running gear on a flat surface, so that the vehicle finally stands without rocking. Degrease the parts before painting and apply a primer - a uniform base shows where a seam still needs sanding. Spray the base shade thinly, so that the engraved detail stays legible, and handle the modulation rather by lightening the upper surfaces than with hard transitions. A wash emphasizes the panels and the rivets, and fine dust on the running gear settles the vehicle into the terrain. If you are building a prototype vehicle, keep the weathering moderate - test machines were usually in markedly better condition than combat-deployed equipment.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
