The package contains a single finished part, an instrument panel for the Lockheed P-38H Lightning in 1:72. It is not a kit and not a complete photo-etched set. The panel is etched from thin sheet and printed in color at the manufacturer, so both spraying and the laborious painting of individual dials fall away. In 1:72 it is the fastest way of turning a cockpit into a convincing detail.
The P-38 Lightning was an American twin-engine fighter with the characteristic pair of tail booms and a central nacelle for the pilot. It was powered by liquid-cooled Allison V12 engines with turbochargers, and the armament was concentrated in the nose, so the guns needed no convergence. The H version brought more powerful powerplants and changes to the cooling. The cockpit was fairly wide and the instrument panel in it forms a continuous surface across the whole front wall.
First check dry how much room is left in the nacelle once the plastic panel has been removed. Separate the etched part from the fret with a sharp cutter; nippers would crease the thin sheet. Level the edges with a fine file and protect the printed face while doing so. Glue with a drop of cyanoacrylate applied with a pin around the perimeter of the reverse side. Do not overspray the printing with varnish. The dial glasses are suggested by a tiny drop of gloss varnish on each one; in such a small scale even just the largest of them is enough.
This is an accessory, not a model of the aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
